The Future of Suburbia event in April 2018 attracted 140 in total, which was a fantastic outcome, with nearly all delegates staying until the final session. Led by MIT’s Alan Berger (Center for Advanced Urbanism) with presentations by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Graham Quirk, the Federal Minister for Cities and Urban Infrastructure, Paul Fletcher, Brisbane Deputy Mayor Adrian Schrinner and many development and planning and design industry professionals it was a  day of powerful and constructive debate.

Hosted jointly with the BDA Committee for Brisbane, the Surburban Alliance thanks our sponsors Lend Lease, Springfield City Group, Consolidated Properties, Logan City along with APP, QUT, the PCA and The Urban Developer. We also especially thank our many speakers, panellists, moderators and delegates.

During the event, we also helped launched Infinite Suburbia.

Infinite SuburbiaInfinite Suburbia is the culmination of the MIT Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism’s yearlong study of the future of suburban development. Extensive research, an exhibition, and a conference at MIT’s Media Lab, this groundbreaking collection presents fifty-two essays by seventy-four authors from twenty different fields, including, but not limited to, design, architecture, landscape, planning, history, demographics, social justice, familial trends, policy, energy, mobility, health, environment, economics, and applied and future technologies. This exhaustive compilation is richly illustrated with a wealth of photography, aerial drone shots, drawings, plans, diagrams, charts, maps, and archival materials, making it the definitive statement on suburbia at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
